Jimmy Carter released from hospital after urinary tract infection

Jimmy Carter is resting at home after his latest stint in the hospital.

The former president was discharged from Phoebe Sumter Medical Center in Americus, Georgia, on Wednesday after he was treated for a urinary tract infection, his spokeswoman Deanna Congileo said.

“He said he looks forward to further rest and recovery at home in Plains, Georgia. He and Mrs. Carter wish everyone peace and joy this holiday season,” Congileo said.

Carter has had several health scares in recent months.

He was released from Emory University Hospital late last month after he had surgery on Nov. 11 to relieve pressure on his brain caused by a subdural hematoma.

That hospitalization followed several recent falls. In October, Carter fractured his pelvis after falling at his home. He also fell earlier that month and hit his forehead, requiring 14 stitches above his eyebrow and leaving him with a black eye. In May, he had surgery after he fell and broke his hip.

Carter was in the White House from 1977 to 1981. The 39th president was defeated by Ronald Reagan in 1980 after one term.
