Will the Redskins still draft a QB?

It was hard to tell what this ESPN conference call really was about: the NFL draft or just Tim Tebow‘s draft stock. In one hour, it seemed like half the time was spent dissecting Tebow’s game.

Anyway, in between the Tebow inquiries came some talk about the Redskins. Imagine that.

And ESPN’s Jon Gruden, said despite now having Donovan McNabb, he wouldn’t be surprised if the Redskins draft another quarterback. Remember, he worked with Redskins general manager Bruce Allen in Tampa Bay and Oakland.

“I know Bruce well enough to know that he needs his quarterback,” Gruden said. “They just made a great decision in getting a guy that’s not only a winning quarterback, but a guy who understands how to win in the NFC East. It might not be in the first round because they pick fourth overall, but I wouldn’t be surprised if they don’t like someone somewhere in the draft. I don’t put anything past Bruce Allen. He has a unique way of looking at things.”

One quarterback possibility in the middle-to-late rounds? Tennessee’s Jonathan Crompton. ESPN analyst Ron Jaworski called him one of his sleepers.

“I see a guy very fluid with movement, who can make all the throws,” Jaworski said. “He has good pocket mobility and I like a quarterback that throws with great balance. To be a consistently accurate NFL quarterback, you have to have rock solid mechanics and that jumped out at me.”
