2 D.C. homicides under investigation

 

Police are investigating two Monday shooting deaths in the District.

The first shooting happened shortly before 4 a.m. on the 1400 block of Morse Street NE. Police said 28-year-old Keith L. Turner, of Capitol Heights, had suffered gunshot wounds and was taken to a hospital, where he died.

The second slaying took place on the 1400 block of New Jersey Avenue NW about 10:15 p.m. Two people were shot, and one, 15-year-old Isaiah Harris, died at a hospital. The other victim survived.

No arrests have been made.

Pastor killed in motorcycle crash

A Dale City pastor was killed in a weekend motorcycle crash.

Prince William County police said Elijah Byrd was killed when he lost control of his Harley-Davidson and struck a tree on Joplin Road in Triangle shortly before 3 p.m. Saturday. He was taken to a hospital, where he was pronounced dead.

Byrd was a pastor at Open Arms Pentecostal Free Will Baptist Church, InsideNova.com reports. He had worked for the church since 1981.

Excess speed appears to have been a factor in the crash, police said.

Man gets 17 years in Trinidad robbery

A D.C. man was sentenced to nearly 17 years in prison for his role in a brazen armed robbery in the Trinidad neighborhood.

Darrell Wilson, 29, and co-defendant McKinley “Rico” Johnson, 23, were convicted by a jury of multiple counts. Johnson was sentenced to 16 years last month. Wilson on Tuesday received 16 years and seven months.

Prosecutors said the duo approached four men and a female in front of a house near the 1200 block of 16th Street in May 2010, fired shots in the air and ordered them onto the ground. The gunmen took several wallets, cell phones and other items.
