Vice President Mike Pence suggested Saturday that moving ahead on tax reform will only happen once Obamacare is repealed and replaced.
“We will repeal and replace Obamacare and give the American people the world-class healthcare they deserve,” he said. “And once Obamacare is gone, we’re going to cut taxes across the board.”
Trump has said in the last week since the Congress failed to get agreement on a repeal and replace bill that tax reform would be next. But in more recent days he has shifted to wanting another shot at the healthcare bill. Pence said Saturday “it ain’t over yet” — a statement that seems to provide further confirmation of the Trump administration’s shift on the matter.
“There’s an old joke that the tax code is ten times the size of the bible, with none of the good news,” Pence said.
“We are going to work with these great leaders in the Congress to pass the biggest tax cuts since the days of Ronald Reagan,” he explained, standing with Republicans from the Buckeye State Sen. Rob Portman and Rep. Pat Tiberi. Tiberi is on the House Ways and Means Committee that handles tax issues.
“We’ll make the tax code … simpler and fairer for everybody,” Pence said. “Here’s some real good news. President Trump’s plan is going to put more money in your pocket and make American businesses competitive again.”
