Recall Vince Gray movement launches

They have to wait until Jan. 2, 2012 to legally recall Mayor Vince Gray, but a movement to topple the sitting mayor has begun.

Frederick Butler, who served as the spokesman for the write-in Adrian Fenty campaign last fall, has launched a website: RecallVinceGray.com

“It is just a page saying we’re under construction,” Butler said in an e-mailed statement. “Legally we cannot start the recall until Jan. 2. However, we are more than welcome to convene and voice our opinions during the web.”

Butler is upset over the allegations leveled against Gray by former mayoral candidate Sulaimon Brown, who claims Gray promised him a job and that Gray’s campaign handed him cash so Brown could continue to campaign against then-Mayor Adrian Fenty. Brown landed a job in the Gray administration with a $110,000 annual salary, only to be fired three weeks later.

“[Gray] has betrayed the public trust, and he has betrayed the constituency he promised so much during the 2010 campaign,” Butler said.
