Texas Rep. Ronny Jackson charged his campaign account for over $2,300 in costs associated with membership at a private social club in Texas, campaign finance records show.
Jackson used campaign donor money at the posh Amarillo Club on what were described in some disclosures to the Federal Election Commission as membership fees or dues. The club was paid almost $650 in October 2020 and $175.37 in November 2020 for “membership fees,” according to FEC reports recovered by the News Tribune.
“These costs are strictly associated with campaign and fundraising events,” a spokesperson for Jackson told the Washington Examiner.

Both campaign fundraising and spending are in the Federal Election Commission’s jurisdiction and are permitted under the law.
Though members can hold campaign events at social clubs, the use of donor money to “pay to be a member, typically, is not allowed,” said Daniel Weiner, a former FEC staffer.
The Amarillo Club was started in November 1947 by 140 businessmen who wanted to create a “Business Men Club.” A newspaper article dated June 25, 1950, claimed that “a man would have to travel a long way to find a more plush, efficiently run city club than the Amarillo Club,” according to the club’s website.
