A 14-year-old female student at a high school in the suburbs of Washington, D.C., reported being raped on Thursday by two male students, including one who had been slated for deportation by Immigration and Customs Enforcement.
The unnamed girl told police she was approached by one of the suspects in the hallway during school hours at Rockville High School in Montgomery County, Md. He asked her to have sex and she said “no.”
Immediately after, the two boys, 17-year-old Jose Montano and 18-year-old Henry Sanchez, allegedly forced her into a boy’s bathroom. They pushed her into a stall, where they raped, sodomized and forced the girl to perform oral sex.
The victim told police she repeatedly said no and tried to fight them off, but was unsuccessful. Following the incident, she ran to school administrators and reported the attack. Police were called to the school and found blood and other DNA at the scene.
The two suspects were arrested at the school. They both face charges of first-degree rape and two counts of first-degree sexual offenses. A judge on Friday ordered both held without bond due to public danger as well as flight risk, because both immigrated to the U.S. months ago.
“They are charged with three very serious offenses that carry life in prison, so that is the maximum you can get in the state of Maryland,” said Ramon Korionoff, spokesperson for the Montgomery County State’s Attorney’s Office, according to a Fox-5 report.
During the initial court hearing, it was revealed that Sanchez had arrived in the U.S. from Guatemala, but had an alien removal order to be deported from U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement. The two suspects were enrolled in the school as freshmen despite being the age of junior and senior students.
Sanchez is due in court April 14 and Montano will go before a judge on March 31.
