Republican presidential front-runner Donald Trump has yet to nab the GOP nomination, but he claims top Republicans are already reaching out to him as though he has.
“I mean, they’re already calling. The biggest people in the party are calling,” Trump said Tuesday on NBC’s “Today” show. “They want to sit down.”
“You know, [House Speaker] Paul Ryan is an example. He called last week,” Trump said, despite claims by Ryan’s spokesperson that Trump initiated the conversation.
Trump said GOP leaders are “calling to see what’s happening,” suggesting that his ability to attract new voters to the Republican Party is “the biggest story worldwide.”
“Look, we brought millions of people to the party,” the billionaire told NBC News’ Savannah Guthrie. “We’re up 70 percent [in voter turnout], the Democrats are down 30 percent.”
He added, “These people are going to give us a tremendous victory in November.”
Tuesday marks a pivotal moment for Trump’s campaign. The New York businessman is poised to do well in three of the five primaries taking place and could pick up enough delegates, through victories in Ohio and Florida, to put his opponents in an increasingly tough spot.
However, should he lose Ohio and Florida, which have a combined total of 165 delegates up for grabs, the odds of a contested or brokered convention are likely to increase dramatically.
Trump will hold a press conference at 9 p.m. ET Tuesday night at his Mar-a-Lago estate in Palm Beach, Fla.
