“Ann Coulter is very popular … but she doesn’t represent Republican women,” said outgoing White House press secretary Dana Perino at a breakfast with reporters on Friday.
Perino’s remarks came as she discussed her plans post-White House, specifically mulling over possible books that she might like to write. She said among several ideas she’s thought about is a tome on how Republican women are “misunderstood.”
“There’s room out there to represent the grace and dignity of Republican women like Laura Bush [and former Rep.] Susan Molinari,” she said.
She also seemed astonished at some of the “vitriol” that was directed at Sarah Palin by other women. “I don’t know why women treat each other like that,” she said.
She ruled out writing a “kiss and tell” book, a la former Bush press secretary Scott McClellan. “I would never write a book … at someone else’s expense,” said Perino.
Tuesday at 10 p.m., Perino and her husband leave for a six-week trip to Scotland, the Middle East and South Africa.
She said she’s signed up with a speaker’s bureau, and she may have discussions with television networks when she returns from her trip.
