Seattle firefighters deserve a round of a-paws for saving a pet dog that had been trapped in a collapsed house for six days.
A Seattle couple, James and Dede Fritts, feared their dog, Sammy, was dead after their house collapsed in a Jan. 7 landslide. However, their neighbors gave the couple hope when they claimed to have heard a dog inside the wreckage, and a report led to firefighters arriving in the afternoon, according to King 5.
“We [heard] a little cry this morning and then didn’t hear anything when the fire department was here with the chainsaws,” family friend and neighbor Remy Olivier said. “We took apart the entire floor, pulled her out, and she had just enough room to survive so she wasn’t crushed. … I guess she was surviving on rainwater the past couple days.”

The Seattle Fire Department wrote on social media that firefighters cut through the house’s walls and flooring to reach the dog. After more than an hour, the dog was rescued and was considered to be in stable condition.

Upon seeing her dog again, Dede Fritts was overjoyed and referred to Sammy as her “baby” multiple times.

James Fritts said his family had two dogs, but the other one died in the collapse.
The couple said that even though Sammy was presumed dead, they had been coming by the house after the collapse in hopes of hearing him.
