Lawmaker in Boehner’s old seat hires Heritage Action lobbyist

Rep. Warren Davidson, R-Ohio, announced Wednesday that he hired Heritage Action for America’s lobbyist as his chief of staff.

Jason Yaworske will leave his position as the director of legislative initiatives for the conservative organization’s lobbying arm, and work with Davidson, who won a special election last month to fill the seat the used to be held by former House Speaker John Boehner.

Davidson followed in the footsteps of Virginia Rep. David Brat, a Tea Party-aligned candidate who beat out former House Majority Leader Eric Cantor last year. Davidson and Brat are further to the right of the two men they replaced: Both newcomers have gone on to join the House Freedom Caucus, a group of 40 conservative members that gave Boehner grief while he was in office, and hired their chiefs of staff from Heritage.

“Part of changing the culture in Washington is empowering conservatives to hold influential jobs on Capitol Hill,” Michael Needham, Heritage Action’s CEO told Roll Call. “In many ways, Heritage Action’s growing government relations team is the training barracks for the conservative insurgency in Washington.”
