A local health official has confirmed that about a dozen Republican convention staffers in Cleveland have the norovirus, but said health workers are confident the outbreak has been contained, according to a report in STAT news.
The head of the Erie County Department of Health told STAT that they believe the norovirus started in California and was transmitted to members of the delegation.
It has been 36 hours since a new case has been found, leading the head of the health department to claim that the outbreak has been contained.
Norovirus is very contagious virus that can lead to stomach pain, nausea and diarrhea, according to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention. Most of the outbreaks occur from handling foods such as oysters, fruits and vegetables that are already contaminated with norovirus.
It can spread quickly in contained areas like daycare centers, nursing homes and cruise ships, CDC added.
