Boy Meets World actor Ben Savage planning Congress bid to replace Adam Schiff

Boy Meets World actor Ben Savage is planning a run for Congress for the California House seat currently held by Rep. Adam Schiff (D-CA).

Savage, who is best known for his role as Cory Matthews on the ’90s sitcom, submitted the filing on Wednesday to run as a Democrat in California’s 30th Congressional District. Savage has not announced his bid, and a spokesperson for the actor told ABC News a final decision is forthcoming.

“He is focused on his upcoming wedding,” a spokesperson told the outlet, referring to Savage’s engagement to Tessa Angermeier. “Ben is still making decisions and always looking for opportunities to give back and serve the community.”

Savage previously ran for office in the midterm elections, launching a bid for a seat on the West Hollywood City Council in 2022. However, the 42-year-old actor ultimately lost his election bid.

The 30th District seat is currently held by Schiff, who is reportedly considering a run for Senate in 2024 to replace Sen. Dianne Feinstein (D-CA). If Savage chooses to launch an official bid for Congress, he is expected to face a crowded field of Democratic candidates eyeing to replace Schiff.

Schiff has not yet indicated whether he plans to run for higher office, but he is considered one of the top contenders to replace Feinstein should she choose to retire.

The race for Feinstein’s Senate seat is already underway despite the 89-year-old not yet announcing whether she plans to retire. If she does, her retirement would open a Senate seat in California that hasn’t been up for grabs since 1992.

Rep. Katie Porter (D-CA) already announced her intent to run for Feinstein’s seat on Jan. 10, setting the stage for a tight battle between her and Schiff.
