The Artists? Gallery wanted more ? and they got it in their first juried show. The gallery?s call for art attracted 136 entries from across the U.S.
Artists? Gallery member Cher Compton suggested the national juried show in order to find a fresh palette of talent while giving gallery members a chance to receive feedback on their art.
Photography, sculpture and watercolor and other mediums are represented at the exhibit. The mixed art forms reflect the gallery?s commitment to present diverse interest and talents, said Artists? Gallery member Diane Dunn.
Dunn hand-printed and colored photographic infrared paper treated with silver halides to create Monhegan Rug Beater, on display in the exhibit.
“The diversity of media indicates that artists are eager to explore a variety of new techniques and, in doing so, expand the vocabulary of choices for expression,” said Michael Skalka, the exhibit?s juror and coordinator of the Art Materials Collection at the National Gallery of Art in Washington, D.C.
“The Artists? Gallery is a vibrant, thriving community,” Skalka said. “Some artists are just starting out, others are well seasoned, but all demonstrate a strong sense of design, composition and practiced craftsmanship.”
