Chuck Schumer, John Brennan named in Turkey probe into US-based cleric

The Turkish government has begun an investigation into 17 U.S.-based individuals, according to the country’s state-run news agency. Among those been probed for their alleged links to cleric Fethullah Gulen include Senate Democratic Leader Chuck Schumer, former U.S. Attorney Preet Bharara and ex-CIA Director John Brennan.

Turkey has accused Gulen, who is based in Pennsylvania, for orchestrating the July 2016 failed coup. Feto’s movement has been designated as a terror organization by Turkey. Gulen has denied involvement.

Anadolu Agency reported that the probe was launched after a group of Turkish lawyers filed a criminal complaint with the prosecutor’s office. The probe is the first step to charging someone for the attempted coup.
