Time to declare our independence again Re: “A day to remind government of the Founders’ vision,” July 5
America’s economic crisis and deepening recession makes it painfully clear that the nation’s evolution away from our founding principles has dangerously eroded our freedom and liberties and resulted in excessive taxation, unabated government growth, constitutional circumvention, overregulation, and abuse of power.
Indeed, liberal power politics created a monarchial presidency, a kangaroo Congress, and star-chamber courts that have become nearly as tyrannical as the government from which we separated. Unconstitutional cancers have metastasized throughout most state governments, with the largest tumors in California and New York.
It is clearly time for voters in every state to declare their independence again by calling for a repeal of the 16th Amendment, the enactment of a “fair tax,” and a balanced-budget amendment to reduce the size, scope and power of government and restore the limited government intent of our Constitution. Only then can its promise of life, liberty and the pursuit of happiness be fully realized.

Column on hydraulic fracturing misstates NYT article
Re: “What the Times didn’t tell you about Ian Urbina,” June 30
Diana Furchtgott-Roth’s column takes issue with a New York Times series on the risks of natural gasdrilling.People areentitled to their opinions as long as they cite facts correctly. However, this column inaccurately describes the series in its openingparagraph, where it states: “In February and March you write that hydraulic fracturing, a method of natural gas extraction, is contaminating Pennsylvania drinking water. Your accusations are disproved by government tests.”
The
Times piece does not say that hydraulic fracturing is contaminating Pennsylvania drinking water. The story says that wastewater, carrying a range of contaminants, was being handled in Pennsylvania in such a way that additional testing was required to ensure that radioactivity did not contaminate drinking water. Following the story, state and federal regulators began additional testing.
I raise this issue with Examiner readers because the author hasrefused to run a correction.

New York’s ‘Luv Gov’ must go
Re: “N.Y. legislature legalizes gay marriage,” June 24
New York Gov. Andrew Cuomo’s coordinated strategy to hold off a vote on same-sex marriage until he could corrupt Republican legislators needs further scrutiny by legal authorities. Cuomo and his pals effectively sold New Yorkers down the river by forcing through something most of them do not want.
Brooklyn Bishop Nicholas DiMarzio, who said the vote was typical of the “corrupt political process in New York state,” has banned all “yes” voting politicians from participating in events at Catholic schools and parishes. Hopefully he will also excommunicate Cuomo, who has demonized all people of faith as prejudicial bigots, and his live-in girlfriend.
Having successfully deconstructed the single most important institution in human history with his indecent and decadent legislation, it is time for the “Luv Gov” to go — both from the Catholic Church and from the political arena.
