Buzz: Trumps waived $3M in government salary, Secretary Pete biking praised, Mo Brooks applauded

Transportation Secretary Pete Buttigieg drew some Washington mockery when he rode a rented bike to work with the set very low.

He agreed in a tweet, “Bike Twitter says my seat was too low. Can confirm.” Now, the professional biking community is coming to his defense.

Bicycling magazine hushed the critics. “The most important thing about Buttigieg commuting on a bike is that he’s on a bike,” it cheered.

  • He led the bid to challenge President Biden’s Electoral College victory that was disrupted in the Jan. 6 pro-Trump protests in the Capitol. But the Alabama Republican Party didn’t punish Rep. Mo Brooks for his actions. Instead, it passed a resolution declaring him a “rare true statesman.” After the vote this week, he said, “Alabamians are smart enough to reject the fake news, socialist Democrat and Republican ‘Surrender Caucus.’” The resolution added, “Mo Brooks is a national leader in the fight against the Socialist agenda of the Democrat Party and is recognized as a rare true statesman among an assemblage of politicians. Congressman Mo Brooks, by extensive action on the House floor, and in his January 6, 2021 and subsequent speeches, boldly led the charge against suppression of First Amendment free speech rights, monopolization of media platforms leading toward outright censorship, and voter and election fraud.”
  • The group Open the Books just reported that former President Donald Trump gave his four-year salary of $1.6 million back to the government, as promised. What it didn’t mention is that his daughter Ivanka and son-in-law Jared Kushner together gave up salaries worth about $1.5 million.
  • Trump is eager to get back on the campaign trail, a friend tells us. “The jet is ready to go,” said the friend. In addition to campaigning against Republicans who voted for his impeachment, he’s hoping his friend of 38 years, football legend Herschel Walker, joins the Georgia gubernatorial race.
