Black Lives Matter protesters were met by a wall of police officers during an attempted protest at Mall of America in Bloomington, Minn., the nation’s largest mall.
The protest was originally planned for 2:30 p.m. Eastern time, according to the group’s Facebook page. More than 700 people RSVP’d online.
Dec. 23 is considered one of the busiest shopping days of the year. At a mall with 520 stores and 50 restaurants, the protesters hoped to have a big impact bringing attention to last month’s deadly police shooting of Jamar Clark.
The Mall of America unsuccessfully tried to get a court order to stop the protest. Three specific organizers were banned from attending, but the judge was unable to stop others from showing up.
