Sony greenlights showings of ‘The Interview’ on Christmas Day

Sony Entertainment’s CEO announced Tuesday that “a number” of U.S. theaters will show the controversial film “The Interview” on Christmas Day. The news comes just days after Sony pulled the movie’s planned release, also scheduled for Christmas, amid threats on theaters.

“We have never given up on releasing The Interview and we’re excited our movie will be in a number of theaters on Christmas,” Sony’s Michael Lynton said, according to The Los Angeles Times’ Joe Bel Bruno. Added Lynton: “We are proud to make it available to the public and to have stood up to those who attempted to suppress free speech.”

As Mic.com noted, both the Alamo Drafthouse Cinema (Texas) and The Plaza Theater in Atlanta announced plans Tuesday to show the controversial film, saying they had been green-lit by Sony.
