Sullinger second, McDermott third in voting

D.C. native and former Riverdale Baptist player Thomas Robinson of Kansas is the frontrunner for national player of the year honors, according to a straw poll of college basketball media members. The poll is conducted every two weeks and has correctly identified the player of the year each year after it was established in 2009.

The 6-foot-9 junior averages 18 points and 12 rebounds per game for the No. 7 Jayhawks, who toppled No. 3 Baylor on Monday night.

Robinson received 25 first-place votes from the 50 polled. The others who received first-place votes were Ohio State sophomore Jared Sullinger (13), Creighton sophomore Doug McDermott (10 first-place votes including mine), and Kentucky freshman Anthony Davis (1). Virginia senior Mike Scott and UNC sophomore Kendall Marshall (O’Connell) received third-place votes.
