White House press secretary Sarah Sanders said Friday it was a “pretty big waste” for news outlets to investigate Trump campaign associates’ ties to the Kremlin.
“Congress has spent a great deal of time of this, a better part of this year,” Sanders said during the White House press briefing. “All of your news organizations have probably spent a lot of money on this as well, which we would consider probably a pretty big waste. I think that our position hasn’t changed since day one.”
Sanders was asked whether President Trump believes special counsel Robert Mueller’s probe into Russian meddling in the 2016 election is a waste of money after the president tweeted Friday morning it is “commonly agreed” there was no collusion between his presidential campaign and Russia.
“It is now commonly agreed, after many months of COSTLY looking, that there was NO collusion between Russia and Trump. Was collusion with HC!” Trump tweeted Friday.
Mueller, as well as numerous congressional committees, launched probes into Russian interference earlier this year.
Sanders also said while the investigations are focused on whether Trump associates colluded with Russia, it appears as if there was collusion between the Democrats and Russia.
“I think we are seeing now that if there was any collusion with Russia, it was between the DNC and Clintons, and certainly not our campaign,” she said, referencing the Democratic National Committee and Hillary Clinton’s presidential campaign.
