No word if the high-beams can light a path clear to Russia.
The City of Wasilla, Alaska is trying to make a few bucks off of former mayor Sarah Palin’s official vehicle by listing it for sale on eBay. The 1999 Ford Expedition has 74,188 miles and a high quality rating relative to similar models, but its street value without Palin’s name attached to it is in the neighborhood of just $2,300, according to Kelly Blue Book. Palin’s association adds a novelty value to the SUV that prompted officials to make the minimum bid $10,000.
“We put it out there to get a better return on taxpayer dollars by listing it as her car than just selling it ‘as-is,'” Public Works Director Archie Giddings told the Associated Press. “It may have some value to somebody … knowing who had it originally.”
Individuals have until 12 a.m. local time on Nov. 28 to place their bids, of which two have been made as of Thursday afternoon. The current bid is $10,100.
Giddings said that any profits from the vehicle’s sale will go toward the city’s vehicle replacement fund.
The photo of the tan Expedition provided by the city shows a cardboard cutout of Palin smiling through the driver’s side window, as well as a “City of Wasilla” seal on the door. Palin the person occupied the SUV through the end of her mayoral term in October 2002, and it continued in city service for a time thereafter.
It currently is in storage and in need of few new parts — and a new owner.
