The Los Angeles Angels suffered another brutal defeat on Thursday despite tying an MLB record with seven solo home runs.
The Angels lost to the Oakland Athletics 8-7 at Angel Stadium. The team is the first to hit seven solo home runs with no other runs during a game. Superstar two-way player Shohei Ohtani hit two home runs.

“I guess they always say solo home runs don’t beat you, but you feel like if you hit seven, you might. It didn’t work out for us,” Angels interim manager Phil Nevin said after the game.
The southern Los Angeles team has gone 20-48 since May 15 and is at a season-low average of 17 games under .500, with 44 wins and 61 losses.
The last team to hit seven solo home runs was the Los Angeles Dodgers in 2018 against the New York Mets.
The Angels jumped into a two-run lead but capitulated in the third inning, giving up six runs, including a two-run home run from Seth Brown. Ramon Laureano hit a two-run blast of his own in the fourth inning, giving him four RBIs for the day.

“The goal is to win the game and score more runs. Solo home runs at the end of the day are nice, but they don’t necessarily always help you win games,” Athletics manager Mark Kotsay said.
The Angels stand in fourth in the American League West division. The Angels have not finished the season with a winning record since 2015.
