Democratic presidential front-runner Hillary Clinton has a 4-point lead over Donald Trump in a new Quinnipiac University national poll released Wednesday.
Clinton, who faces a tight battle against Bernie Sanders for a final victory in the California primary next week, leads Trump 45 to 41 percent in the latest survey.
Both candidates, however, remain wildly unpopular with a majority of Americans. Only 37 percent of voters have a favorable view of Clinton, while 34 percent had a positive impression of her Republican opponent.
Nearly 60 percent of voters hold a negative view of Trump, while 57 percent view Clinton unfavorably.
The race between Clinton and Trump becomes even closer when respondents were asked to consider third-party candidates like Libertarian Gary Johnson and Green Party candidate Jill Stein.
In that case, Clinton carried a 2-point lead over Trump, 40 to 38 percent, while Johnson got 5 percent of the vote and Stein got 3 percent.
The Quinnipiac University survey of 1,561 registered voters was conducted May 24-30. Results contain a margin of error plus or minus 2.5 percentage points.
