A new push is underway to raise funds to rebuild churches in the United States after catastrophic damage was done to the Notre Dame Cathedral in Paris on Monday.
Responding to high-profile money declarations to help rebuild the French landmark, Huffington Post journalist Yashar Ali urged his Twitter following Tuesday to help raise funds on GoFundMe to rebuild three historically black churches in Louisiana after they were burned down by a suspected arsonist.
“The rebuild of Notre Dame will be well funded. In the past month, three historically black churches in Louisiana were destroyed by a racist arsonist. He has been charged with hate crimes, but these churches need your help. Please join me in donating,” Yashar said Tuesday.

Yashar was joined by several prominent media and public figures after encouraging them to match his $1,000 donation.
Conservative commentator Ben Shapiro matched Yashar’s donation along with CNN host Jake Tapper, late night host Seth Meyers, and actress Kristin Davis.
Hillary Clinton retweeted the link to the GoFundMe, which has raised over $350,000 of their $1.8 million goal, with the majority of the money coming within the last day.
As we hold Paris in our thoughts today, let’s also send some love to our neighbors in Louisiana. Three historically black churches have burned in recent weeks, charring buildings and scattering communities. If you can, contribute to rebuilding funds here: https://t.co/OSteYWzU9v
