Montgomery County police are investigating a stabbing that was reported after a basketball game at a Silver Spring high school.
Police said a 17-year-old girl was stabbed several times in her torso while trying to break up an altercation between two other girls who were attending the game at Northwood High School, located at 919 University Blvd. West.
The victim, a student at Montgomery Blair High School, suffered non-life-threatening injuries. The fight happened at about 9 p.m. Tuesday.
Police think that two people, both believed to be female students at nearby Kennedy High School, were involved in the stabbing, and investigators are trying to determine their identities. One was described as black, about 5 feet 6 inches tall and with chin-length hair. The other was described as Hispanic, 5 feet 5 inches to 5 feet 6 inches tall, with a heavy build.
