A family of U.S. tourists caused a panic at Israel’s Ben Gurion Airport in Tel Aviv on Thursday after bringing an unexploded artillery shell to a security check.
On Thursday night, a family member pulled the shell out of a backpack at the airport’s security checkpoint to ask whether it could be placed into a suitcase, according to Israel’s Ynet news website. The official ordered her immediate vicinity to be cleared, but another passenger misheard her and claimed she shouted “terrorists shooting,” which led to mass panic, the website said.
At least one person, a 32-year-old man, was injured during the panic when he leaped over a baggage carousel, the report said. He was taken to the hospital, where his condition is unknown.

The family members were allowed to board the plane following interrogation by Israeli security, and the armament, which they acquired while touring the Golan Heights, was confiscated before they were allowed to board their plane.

Israel has suffered a series of shootings that could indicate a new wave of terrorism. There was also a clash between Palestinians and Israeli police on April 15, leading to more than 150 injuries when the crowd gathered around an Israeli holy site during Ramadan and Passover, which occurred concurrently this year.
