Former New York City Mayor Rudy Giuliani took his name out of the running to be the attorney general under President-elect Trump’s administration Monday evening.
While the presidential campaign has ended, the process of campaigning is still going strong for Trump administration posts. Speaking at a Wall Street Journal event, Giuliani was asked about the AT&T-Time Warner merger that is being proposed and whether he’d approve it.
But Giuliani said it didn’t matter what he thought. “I won’t be attorney general,” he said.
Earlier in the event, Giuliani addressed reports from earlier on Monday stating that he was becoming a frontrunner for the post of secretary of state in the new Trump administration.
Former diplomat John Bolton is also reportedly under consideration for the spot and Giuliani said he would be “a very good choice.”
“Is there anybody better?” asked Wall Street Journal editor-in-chief Gerard Baker.
“Maybe me, I don’t know,” Giuliani replied, getting laughs from those gathered for the event.
