LOCAL GAMES Miami at Virginia Tech

When » Saturday, 3:30 p.m.

Where » Lane Stadium,

Blacksburg, Va.

TV » ABC

Radio » 106.7 FM

This is almost certainly an ACC Coastal elimination game for both Miami (2-2, 0-1) and Virginia Tech (4-1, 0-1), which looks to rebound from an unsightly 23-3 loss to Clemson in which the Hokies’ offense was exposed. Two years ago, the Hurricanes and QB Jacory Harris were ranked No.?9 when they were throttled by Virginia Tech 31-7. Miami hasn’t been ranked as high since. After losing the first 12 games of the series (1953-94), Virginia Tech has captured 11 of the last 16.

Southern Mississippi

at Navy

When » Saturday, 3:30 p.m.

Where » Navy-Marine Corps

Memorial Stadium, Annapolis

TV » CBS College Sports

Radio » 1500 AM

Coming off a crushing 35-34 overtime loss to Air Force, this is a difficult rebound game for Navy (2-2). Conference USA power Southern Miss (4-1) has the nation’s fourth-longest string of winning seasons with 17 and is coming off a 48-24 victory over Rice in which it rang up a school-record 654 yards. Senior QB Austin Davis is the Golden Eagles’ all-time leader in total offense (9,770 yards) and TD passes (63). This is the first meeting between the teams.

Georgetown at Wagner

When » Saturday, 1 p.m.

Where » Wagner Stadium,

Staten Island, N.Y.

Coming off a 32-14 loss to improved Bucknell, Georgetown (3-2) looks to make amends against Wagner (1-4) of the Northeast Conference, which has lost four straight. Last year when the teams met at Georgetown, the Seahawks overcame a 10-point deficit in the final three minutes and four interceptions in the game, escaping with a 22-16 victory in the second OT when Keith Davis streaked 80 yards with a pick six.

Howard at Florida A&M

When » Saturday, 3 p.m.

Where » Bragg Memorial Stadium,

Tallahassee, Fla.

After ending its 29-game losing streak in the MEAC in a big way with a 34-14 victory at Savannah State, Howard (2-3, 1-2) looks to make it two straight. Freshman QB Greg McGhee (three touchdown passes) and senior DE Sackie Kerkulah (4.5 sacks) were the leaders against Savannah. In hammering the Bison the last six years, Florida A&M (3-2, 1-1) has averaged 40 points a game.

Top Five Games in Week 6

5

No. 24 Texas A&M at Texas Tech » Texas Tech (4-0) is undefeated, unranked and unproven. But Tommy Tuberville’s Red Raiders will get plenty of chances for validation as they play ranked teams five of the next six weeks. Texas Tech is fourth in the nation in scoring (47.3 ppg) behind QB Seth Doege and RB Eric Stephens. Texas A&M is smarting after losses to No. 6 Oklahoma State and No.?10 Arkansas by a combined five points. (Saturday, 7 p.m., FX)

4 No. 17 Florida at No.?1 LSU »

The hits keep coming for Florida coach Will Muschamp, who will turn to freshman Jeff Driskel to replace QB John Brantley, hurt last week when the Gators were throttled by No. 2 Alabama. After beating three ranked teams by at least 13 points, the challenges for LSU come with a Nov. 5 date looming against Alabama and managing a potential quarterback controversy with Jordan Jefferson back after a suspension. (Saturday, 3:30 p.m., CBS)

3

No. 15 Auburn at No. 10 Arkansas »

This is the second of four straight ranked foes for Auburn, including three on the road. The Tigers turned their season around last week with a 16-13 victory over South Carolina. Auburn limited the Gamecocks to 289 yards after giving up 624 in a loss at Clemson. Arkansas QB Tyler Wilson, who threw for 510 yards last week against Texas A&M, will be tough to stop. (Saturday, 7 p.m., ESPN)

2

Ohio State at No. 14 Nebraska » For the second straight Saturday, Nebraska gets the prime-time ABC slot. The Cornhuskers will try to prove they deserve it. Last week they were throttled by Wisconsin 48-17 in their Big Ten opener. Nebraska will need more from Taylor Martinez, who went 11-for-22 for 176 yards with three interceptions as he was thoroughly outplayed by Russell Wilson. (Saturday, 8 p.m., ABC)

1

No. 3 Oklahoma vs. No. 11 Texas » For the second time in the last seven years, the Red River Rivalry pits two undefeated teams. While Oklahoma entered the season No. ?1, Texas has climbed the rankings after being left out of the preseason AP Top 25. Oklahoma quarterback Landry Jones will need a big day to solidify his claim as a Heisman front-runner. (Saturday, noon, ABC)
