Marco Rubio: Obama doesn’t believe in the Second Amendment

Senator Marco Rubio urged President Barack Obama to confess he doesn’t believe in the Second Amendment.

“I think that the president – and he doesn’t have the guts to admit it – is not a believer in the Second Amendment,” Rubio said Wednesday night on Fox News’ ‘The O’Reilly Factor.’ “If he doesn’t want the Second Amendment to be in the Constitution, or if he wants to reform the Second Amendment, then have the guts to admit that.”

Rubio is responding to Obama’s 23 executive actions on gun reform the president revealed on Wednesday.

The Florida senator also discussed on the show that gun control is an integral part of the liberal agenda and wittingly pointed out that “the President is a liberal.”

“I’ll let you in on a secret, I mean, the President is a liberal.” Rubio told the show’s host Bill O’Reilly. “And this is part of the liberals’ long time dreams for our country and he sees this as an opportunity to get some of these things done.”

Rubio has no doubt that this is what Obama has “wanted to do his entire political career.”

“He sees an opportunity to do it and he’s going to utilize every rhetorical device that he can use to get to that point,” Rubio asserted.

While the President has used the Sandy Hook shooting as a call to action for gun reform, Rubio asked his Twitter followers early on after the Newtown Massacre  if “we can take a break from the politics of shooting” and instead “mourn and pray for Newtown.”

Rubio is currently the favorite 2016 Republican presidential candidate and perhaps fighting for Americans’ right to bear arms will only increase his popularity in the Republican Party.

UPDATE: The Obama campaign has sought to reassure its supporters that the president does, in fact, support the Second Amendment, amidst his detractors’ claims that he doesn’t respect the Constitution. An email this morning via Jim Messina (a political adviser to the President) declares, “We won’t stop every violent act like the one in Newtown, Connecticut. But if we can save the life of even one child, the President believes each of us has a responsibility to take action … Most gun owners use their guns safely and responsibly, and the President believes firmly in protecting our Second Amendment rights.”
