Connolly endorses Krupicka in state Senate race

U.S. Rep. Gerry Connolly, D-Va., has formally endorsed Rob Krupicka in the Alexandria councilman’s bid for the state Senate seat to be vacated by retiring Sen. Patsy Ticer, D-Alexandria.

“Through his work on the City Council, the State Board of Education, his environmental leadership with Alexandria’s Eco-City program, his in-depth knowledge, and advocacy for mass transit solutions, and his state and national experience on early childhood education policy, he has established himself as a progressive champion for Northern Virginia,” said Connolly.

Krupicka officially kicked off his campaign Saturday at the Birchmere Music Hall in Alexandria. He is taking on Arlington school board chairwoman Libby Garvey and Del. Adam Ebbin, D-Va., in the Democratic primary. Ticer has already endorsed Garvey, while Ebbin recently won the backing of 10 Northern Virginia state delegates.

The primary is scheduled for Aug. 23, though the boundaries of the reliably blue district could look markedly different by then. The General Assembly is reconvening next month to re-draw House, Senate and Congressional district lines as part of the once-a-decade redistricting process based on the 2010 U.S. Census data.
