  • A man has been sentenced to five years behind bars for threatening Montgomery County public officials after he lost a child-custody case.

Michael Moment, 49, sent letters saying “contracts” had been placed on the lives of two Montgomery County judges, the state’s attorney, the Circuit Court clerk and the county executive’s daughter in April 2010. He sent the letters because he was unhappy with the resolution of a child-custody case, authorities said.

He was convicted in an August jury trial. Moment was prosecuted in Prince George’s County to avoid a conflict of interest.
