Former 2016 rivals Paul, Fiorina team up in Senate race

Carly Fiorina will campaign for Kentucky Sen. Rand Paul, who is seeking a second term.

The former 2016 presidential campaign rivals will gather for an outdoor meet-and-greet event in Glenview later this month that will feature a bluegrass band and booze.

Since ending her own presidential bid, Fiorina returned to the campaign trail as Ted Cruz’s short-lived running mate. She subsequently spoke at the Texas GOP convention and avoided proclaiming her support for Donald Trump, the GOP’s presumptive nominee.

She did, however, say she would support Cruz’s re-election bid to the Senate in 2018, and now she’s decided to also lend a hand to Paul.

And Fiorina isn’t the only former presidential rival stumping for Paul, as Ohio Gov. John Kasich helped Paul fundraise in Kentucky earlier this month. Paul took rhetorical swings at Kasich on the campaign trail, but he appears to be literally hugging him as he looks to navigate his re-election fight.

The Kentucky Senate race is listed as firmly in Republicans’ column, according to political scientist Larry Sabato’s projections, but Donald Trump’s presence at the top of the ticket could make things unpredictable.
