Video shows flooded NYC subways and roads following stormy weather

Heavy afternoon storms sparked road closures and flooded subways across the New York City area on Thursday, causing the National Weather Service to issue a flash flood warning for parts of New York and surrounding counties.

The New York City Police Department deployed its Strategic Response Group to assist stranded motorists whose cars were partially submerged on the Major Deegan Expressway, which had to be temporarily closed after the heavy rains swept through the city, police said.

Bystander video shows floodwaters on the expressway coming up to the wheel well on some stranded vehicles.

All lanes of the Cross Bronx Expressway were also closed Thursday afternoon due to flooding conditions but have since reopened.

Footage from inside the city’s subway system posted to social media also reveals flooding at some stations. One video shows a woman wading through waist-deep water in a subway passageway as she makes her way toward the trains.

Some commuters at the 157th St. station reportedly tried covering their legs with trash bags to stay dry while wading through the water.

Other footage reveals water pouring from the roof of another subway station.
