Leave it to Southern California coach Lane Kiffin to raid Penn State. On Tuesday, USC announced that Nittany Lions running back Silas Redd was coming west.
When sanctions were handed down last week against Penn State in the wake of the Jerry Sandusky child sex abuse scandal, and many players vowed to remain in Happy Valley, the obvious comparison was to USC. The Trojans were hit with sanctions in 2010 but have survived nicely as many players, including Heisman Trophy candidate Matt Barkley, have stuck with the program.

If anyone might feel some empathy for Penn State, it would be Kiffin. But Redd, who rushed for 1,241 yards last season, will take his two seasons of eligibility west.
“At USC, we’ve seen both sides of this issue, having lost a number of players to transfer due to our NCAA sanctions,” USC athletic director Pat Hayden said in a statement. “But Lane Kiffin and his coaches would not be doing their job if they did not try to improve our team every single day.”
