Sessions returns to DOJ to receive his Cabinet chair

Former Attorney General Jeff Sessions returned to the Department of Justice on Thursday to be presented with his Cabinet chair.

According to the Justice Department, current Attorney General William Barr, Deputy Attorney General Rod Rosenstein, and former U.S. Attorney John Huber also attended the ceremony.

Sessions, who recused himself in March 2017 from the Justice Department’s Russia investigation, was ousted by Trump in November 2018.

Sessions also previously represented Alabama in the Senate, and was the first sitting senator to endorse Trump in 2016. But Sessions and Trump had a rocky relationship during Sessions’ time heading the Justice Department.

Trump publicly slammed Sessions and claimed he didn’t “understand what is happening underneath his command position” and had “never taken control of his department.”

Trump also railed against Sessions’ decision to recuse himself, and called it “very unfair” to him. Trump still appears bitter over the decision, and mocked Sessions earlier this month at the Conservative Political Action Conference.

“And the attorney general says ‘I’m gonna recuse myself,’” Trump said in a Southern accent as he imitated Sessions.
