Kasich touts one-year freeze on regulations

GOP presidential contender Gov. John Kasich of Ohio proposed a one-year “freeze” on all federal regulations to restore the country’s economy.

Responding to an opening question on President Obama’s assessment of the U.S. economy, Kasich said under Obama’s administration unbridled regulations are “smothering” the country’s economy.

“You have regulations … I mean come on.” They are “smothering people,” Kasich said.

He said he would “freeze all federal regulations for one year” except health and safety.

In 2015 alone, 3,378 rules and regulations were finalized, according to a study by the Competitive Enterprise Institute. More than 500 are recognized as having effects on small businesses.
