Sebelius: People ‘stop me on sidewalks’ to thank me for Obamacare

Former Health and Human Services Secretary Kathleen Sebelius said people “stop me on the sidewalks” to thank her for Obamacare.

“I feel great for the people who talk to me every day in the grocery store and on airplanes and stop me on sidewalks and tell me that this has changed their life forever,” she told MSNBC on Saturday. “They no longer have to worry about affording healthcare if they get sick, taking care of their kids, and this is a very good day for those Americans.”

The host asked Sebelius if she was worried about the Supreme Court ruling against the law ahead of Thursday’s decision.

“Always, it’s unpredictable,” she replied, saying she was “a little confused” why the court took the case in the first place.

“There was no guarantee that the court would find against the plaintiffs. I think the great news is that a strong majority of the court, including Justice Roberts and Kennedy, said this is what the law was intended to do, to actually improve the insurance market, help people get health insurance, not jeopardize the coverage that they had,” she said. “I was really pleased that the decision was so strong, and with a 6-3 majority, hopefully it lays to rest a lot of the issues around is the law Constitutional or not. It clearly is.”

She added that she hopes Congress “stops re-litigating the past. I feel like we’re living in ‘Groundhog Day.’ ”
