Cruz: Obama has become the president ‘Nixon always wished he could be’

First it was Obamacare, now it’s Mount McKinley that has Ted Cruz up in arms.

During an appearance on “The Hugh Hewitt Show” Monday, Cruz bashed President Obama and his decision to rename the Alaskan peak “Mount Denali” without congressional approval. He called it another example of the Obama administration being is the “most lawless administration” in history.

In addition, the Texas senator called the administration’s move the “latest manifestation of the megalomaniacal imperial presidency,” telling the host that Obama has finally become “the president Richard Nixon always wished he could be.”

“It is the latest manifestation of the megalomaniacal imperial presidency that we have seen for six and a half years. This administration has been the most lawless administration we’ve ever seen,” Cruz told Hewitt. “This president routinely disregards the law, disregards the constitution, disregards the Congress.”

The 2016 hopeful told the host that if Obama wants to change the name of a mountain, the way to do that is through Congress.

“Indeed there is legislation pending to do what he just decreed what happened. But he can’t be bothered by constitutional niceties like actually passing legislation,” Cruz said, pointing to his executive action on immigration last November.

“One of the things Barack Obama said is ‘I am not an emperor.’ And then a few months, later the election was approaching, and I guess he became an emperor,” Cruz said referring back to Obama’s past claims regarding unilateral action on immigration.

“Barack Obama has become the president Richard Nixon always wished he could be,” Cruz concluded.
