PROVIDENCE, R.I. (AP) — Students interested in the field of cyber-security are being urged to enter the state’s third Cyber Foundations Competition.
U.S. Rep. Jim Langevin (LAN’-jih-vin), who is co-chair of the Cybersecurity Caucus in Congress, says both individuals and schools can register. The contest tests skills in networking, operating systems and system administration.

Langevin launched the event in Rhode Island as part of his efforts to improve the state’s workforce development in high-growth industries. He says there is a shortfall of trained cyber-security specialists and that the state can help fill the void.
The deadline for registering is Oct. 15. The competition takes place over three days in November and December.
Last year, 201 students from 12 high schools participated.
