A House Democrat said President Trump could end up in a place worse than hell after the president criticized the late Congressman John Dingell, saying the Democrat might be “looking up.”
Trump attacked Dingell, who died in February at age 92, at his Michigan rally on Wednesday after House Democrats voted to impeach him. Democratic Rep. Debbie Dingell, who filled her husband’s vacant seat after his death, backed Trump’s impeachment.
“She calls me up,” Trump said. “‘It’s the nicest thing that’s ever happened. Thank you so much. John would be so thrilled. He’s looking down. He would be so thrilled.'”
“I said, ‘That’s OK, don’t worry about it.’ Maybe he’s looking up; I don’t know,” Trump said. “Maybe, but let’s assume he’s looking down.”
The comment has brought an onslaught of bipartisan criticism.
“It’s moments like these that we are reminded that the president is not only a criminal, he is implusively [sic] cruel and truly rotten to the core. Hell will be too good for him,” Democratic Rep. John Yarmuth of Kentucky tweeted.

Republican Rep. Dan Crenshaw of Texas called Trump’s comments “totally unnecessary.”

Republican Sen. Lindsey Graham of South Carolina urged Trump to apologize for the remark.
Dingell said Trump’s words were hurtful, tweeting, “You brought me down in a way you can never imagine and your hurtful words just made my healing much harder.”
