Baltimore City?s homicide count nears 200

With gunshot wounds to the head and chest, a 20-year-old man became the 195th homicide victim in Baltimore City this year.

Davon Mccargo, of North Monroe Street, was found bleeding to death on the 1300 block of West Lafayette Street around 5 p.m. Saturday.

When a Baltimore police officer responded to the scene, he observed “a crowd gathered around” Mccargo, said Detective Donny Moses, a department spokesman.

Medics transported Mccargo to the University of Maryland Shock Trauma Center, where he was pronounced dead at 8:10 p.m.

Despite the crowd, no onlookers told police they saw anything related to the shooting.

“There were no witnesses,” Moses said. “We have no motive, no suspects.”

In April, prosecutors dropped attempted murder and gun charges against Mccargo, who last year pleaded guilty to narcotics distribution and was sentenced to two years of probation before judgment.

Through Aug. 12, 2006, there were 168 homicides in Baltimore City ? nearly 30 fewer than the 195 slain this year.
