Evergreen Country Club culminated a dominant season in Washington area team play, winning the Senior Scratch League championship.
The title along with wins in the Washington Metropolitan Golf Association Senior Team and Northern Virginia Golf Association A-Team competitions make Evergreen the first club to sweep all three events. In all three competitions, Evergreen, was undefeated.
“I am fortunate to have 12-15 players who could have played with very little dropoff in quality,” said senior captain Ed Harper.
Evergreen’s most recent victory came in the finals over International. Paving the way were Andy Harris and John Hoffman, who shot 7-under-par, and won their better ball match, 5 up.
Evergreen’s Dwight Holman and Mark Rallas, who were 4-under-par, won their match 1 up. John Long and Charlie Jurgonis, after losing the front nine, 2 down, rallied to fire 4-under-par on the back to earn a halve.
