RNC: Clinton won a ‘rigged’ Democratic primary

Echoing Donald Trump, the Republican National Committee claimed Hillary Clinton clinched the Democratic Party’s nomination for president because it was “rigged.”

RNC chairman Reince Priebus and co-chair Sharon Day painted Clinton in an unflattering light in a statement released before she took the stage to celebrate her victory.

“Hillary Clinton’s long struggle to the finish line is nearly complete thanks to the Democrat Party’s rigged system that empowers unelected, unbound ‘superdelegates,'” the statement said. “In a contest that was supposed to be a mere formality, Clinton suffered over 20 losses and was driven further to the extreme left by a 74-year old Vermont socialist who had never before run as a Democrat.”

Day also claimed that Clinton made history as “the first standard-bearer to be under FBI investigation” in addition to being the first female nominee of a major party.

The RNC’s statement may preview the type of attacks that Trump, the GOP’s presumptive nominee, may hurl in a “major speech” next week about Clinton.
