Rashida Tlaib fires back at Republicans: They ‘sow hate and fear based on falsehoods’

Rep. Rashida Tlaib, D-Mich., took on Republican critics who attacked her for statements they said were anti-Semitic, saying they were the ones sowing “hate.”

“It’s clear the GOP has no plan for moving this country forward, instead they want to sow hate and fear based on falsehoods. They want to strip folks of healthcare, they don’t have an infrastructure plan, and they don’t even talk about combatting white supremacy. #TakeonHate,” Tlaib said in a tweet Monday.

“Together we will take back our country & on the course of unity, equality and justice for all. Afterwards, we will be stronger from it, and never let it happen again. But only together, as one, marching forward with love and truth. #TakeonHate,” Tlaib added.

Tlaib’s tweetstorm started with her responding to political strategist Evan Weber on Twitter.

“I will always uplift and protect you @evanlweber with love for justice and equality. Thank you! We can’t allow the hate mongering GOP to divide us. Together, we will fight back and win,” she said.

Tlaib came under fire after making comments Saturday that Republicans said downplayed the Holocaust.

“There’s always kind of a calming feeling I tell folks when I think of the Holocaust, and the tragedy of the Holocaust, and the fact that it was my ancestors — Palestinians — who lost their land and some lost their lives, their livelihood, their human dignity, their existence in many ways, have been wiped out, and some people’s passports,” Tlaib said on the podcast “Skullduggery.”

“And just all of it was in the name of trying to create a safe haven for Jews, post-the Holocaust, post-the tragedy, and the horrific persecution of Jews across the world at that time. And I love the fact that it was my ancestors that provided that, right, in many ways. But they did it in a way that took their human dignity away, and it was forced on them,” Tlaib said.

President Trump criticized the representative Monday, saying: “Democrat Rep. Tlaib is being slammed for her horrible and highly insensitive statement on the Holocaust. She obviously has tremendous hatred of Israel and the Jewish people. Can you imagine what would happen if I ever said what she said, and says?”

Tlaib said that Republicans were “policing” her words.

“Policing my words, twisting & turning them to ignite vile attacks on me will not work. All of you who are trying to silence me will fail miserably. I will never allow you to take my words out of context to push your racist and hateful agenda. The truth will always win,” Tlaib said Sunday on Twitter.

Tlaib was criticized back in January for comments critics said played on the dual-loyalty trope against Jewish Americans.
