Scarborough: ‘If Trump wins Iowa, he wins the nomination’

MSNBC personality Joe Scarborough believes the Iowa caucuses will determine the future of Donald Trump’s presidential campaign, and said success in Iowa would ensure Trump secures the Republican Party’s nomination.

“I think the calculus right now is if Trump wins Iowa he wins the nomination,” Scarborough said. “If Trump loses Iowa but ends up winning New Hampshire big, he’s still on the way because Trump is a South Carolina candidate. They love him in South Carolina. … If he has any momentum going into South Carolina, he’ll blow everybody away there.”

Amid news of multiple polls showing Trump falling behind Ben Carson in Iowa, Scarborough appeared motivated to keep the former NBC reality star to stay competitive.

Scarborough noted that “no one’s coming to the rescue of the establishment” this year and Trump could still triumph if he has momentum from the first nominating contests early next year.

“If Trump wins Iowa or New Hampshire, I don’t know who stops him,” Scarborough continued. “He hasn’t spent a dime and he has between four and ten billion dollars. And he’s going to start writing checks if he thinks he’s going to be president of the United States.”

Scarborough, who has previously said Carson is not qualified to be president of the United States, looked distraught by Carson’s success in Iowan polls and said, “He has no idea how to run a government, [but] he may be an effective city councillor somewhere.” Trump, the MSNBC personality suggested, would understand how to get things done that Carson simply could not comprehend.
