Trump family invites 6th grader ‘bullied’ for being named Joshua Trump to State of the Union

One of President Trump and first lady Melania Trump’s special guests at the State of the Union Tuesday night will be Joshua Trump, a 6th grade student from Delaware who the White House says has been bullied because of his last name.

“Unfortunately, Joshua has been bullied in school due to his last name,” a statement from White House press secretary Sarah Sanders’ office said. “He is thankful to the first lady and the Trump family for their support.”

One of Melania Trump’s projects as first lady is her “Be Best” initiative aimed at reducing cyberbullying.

Other special guests invited to the State of the Union by the Trumps include Matthew Charles, the first prisoner released from the prison reform measure that passed last year, and Judah Samet, a survivor of the Tree of Life Synagogue shooting last year.

Alice Johnson will also attend the State of the Union. Trump granted Johnson clemency in June at the urging of reality star and businesswoman Kim Kardashian West. Johnson was sentenced to life in prison following her conviction for a nonviolent drug offense and had been behind bars for nearly 22 years.
