Capital One to add thousands of jobs Capital One Financial Corp. will expand its payrolls by 3,600 jobs this year, Bloomberg News reports.

The McLean company, acquiring online banker ING Direct for $9 billion, has hired 1,800 new employees this year and will hire an additional 1,800 before the end of 2011, Bloomberg says, citing Capital One spokeswoman Tatiana Steed.

Capital One has about 3,400 employees in the Washington area and 28,000 company-wide.

Banks to increase small business lending

Thirteen national banks agreed to increase their lending to small businesses by a total of $20 billion over the next three years.

The commitment was announced by Karen Mills, head of the Small Business Administration, during a visit to Wrap Tite Inc., a small manufacturer in Solon, Ohio, that recently received a $1.5 million SBA-guaranteed loan.

Versar posts record revenue

Versar Inc. piled up record revenue in its latest fiscal year as it benefited from two acquisitions and the ramp-up of a new project. Sales in the fourth quarter rose 28 percent.

The Springfield company, a project management specialist, said that revenue for fiscal 2011, ended July 1, was $137.6 million, up 37 percent from revenue of $100.8 million in fiscal 2010. The $137.6 million in gross revenue was the highest the company had ever reported in its 42-year history.
