Final Oregon militiaman surrenders

David Fry, the sole remaining Oregon militiaman involved in the weeks-long standoff with the federal government, surrendered Thursday.

Fry surrendered while negotiating with conservative radio host KrisAnne Hall. Three other protesters surrendered earlier Thursday. The standoff took place at the Malheur National Wildlife Refuge in Burns, Oregon.

The confrontation did not end in bloodshed, as a previous standoff with members of the Oregon group had when an Arizona man was killed.

Earlier on Thursday, Fry was adamant he would not surrender, before changing his mind.

“My peace hasn’t been made. You guys haven’t addressed my grievances,” Fry said Thursday.

Also Thursday, the Department of Justice charged Cliven Bundy, the icon and family member to many of the protesting Oregon ranchers, with assault and conspiracy for his 2014 Nevada standoff with the federal government.

The standoff began Jan. 2, when Bundy and his armed group took over the refuge over government versus private property rights.
