Stormy day in D.C.
What does a famous adult-film actress wear at a D.C. press conference? No, whatever you were thinking of, it’s not that. For Wicked Pictures’ Stormy Daniels, who appeared at the National Press Club this morning, the choice was a knee length black business suit, a dark blue shirt and what looked to be an engagement ring on her left ring finger (sorry, guys).

Daniels was in town with the Association of Sites Advocating Child Protection, as they promoted a new “Restricted to Adults” label for use by adult sites, the better to flag themselves for parental-control software.
The association picked a good spokeswoman in Daniels. Apart from being a performer, director and writer of X-rated fare, she has some mainstream exposure, thanks to bit parts in “The 40-Year-Old Virgin” and “Knocked Up.” She’s also lobbied California state legislators in Sacramento on the same issue.
“I do not want children viewing my site or its adult-only content,” she said. “The adult industry does not want their business.”
She said her involvement is an “obligation as a member of the adult industry,” adding that “self-regulation” is an important part of what they do.
To that end, she unveiled two public-service announcements she recently filmed. “Hi there,” she says in one, as she sits at a computer and stares alluringly into the camera. “We’ve met before right? In here [gesturing to the screen]? I like it when you’re online because you’re over 18 and I only play with adults.” Well.
“I hope our critics and our detractors appreciate our efforts,” she said. For those, she didn’t have to look very far.In a delicious coincidence, the socially conservative Family Research Council was having its own press conference next door on the California decision on same-sex marriage.
“We should take down the wall between and we can all mingle,” said one of Daniels’ handlers. “We can have tea.”
As for her own plans, Daniels told us she spent most of her time in D.C. in her hotel room, beset by allergies thanks to our pollen.
And no, she wasn’t meeting with any legislators, although she thanked the Senate for passing a resolution marking June as National Internet Safety Month.
